Project in brief
We advance the understanding of habits and their impact on society
HABITUS aims to investigate the role played by habits in our artistic and aesthetic practices and experiences employing an interdisciplinary approach encompassing philosophy, empirical research, and qualitative analysis
Activities
What will HABITUS do?
Developing a theoretical framework to elucidate the role of habits in shaping aesthetic experiences within art and daily life.
Drawing from historical and philosophical perspectives, HABITUS aims to clarify how habits influence artistic and everyday behavior, shape cultural relationships, and regulate interactions with the environment. It then investigatesthe transformative potential of specific aesthetic habits in promoting behavoral plasticity, adaptability to specific situations, and our improvisational abilities in art and daily life.Conducting psychological and neuroscientific experiments to empirically validate the theoretical framework.
These experiments explore the connections between habits and aesthetic pleasure, challenging assumptions about habits stifling creativity and showing how specific aesthetic habits can enhance psychological well-being and encourage personal and social flourishing.Applying the concept of aesthetic habits to a wide range of artistic and aesthetic practices such as visual & performing arts, cinema, design, fashion, and food.
Through qualitative research, HABITUS investigates how habits shape these practices and, reciprocally, how these practices impact habitual behavior. The focus is also on the role played by artificial intelligence in shaping these practices and the function that aesthetic habits could have in liberating them from overly rigid behavioral patterns.
